The story behind the story

Heat exhaustion in hot climes is always a problem, but no more so than for our troops who have to man armoured vehicles in Iraq and Afghanistan, when temperatures during the day can climb to intolerable levels.

So we desperately need modern, air conditioned vehicles. But the MoD has spent £300 million on a replacement for the Scimitar, yet has nothing even on the drawing board. So it fits "air cooling" tubes to the Scimitars.
